■Basic information
・Area: 20.37㎢(No. 12 in Tokyo 23 districts)
・Population: 259,886 people (among them, 20,206 are foreign people) and 147,710 households. (As of 17th August 2019)
The area has more apartments than detached houses and about 90% of Minato-ku residents live in apartment houses.
Minato-ku is making an effort to conserve energy, and it is characterized by its generous support for environmental measures such as the Green Town Business Award, which awards buildings with superior greening plans to those that have installed energy-saving devices (solar power generation systems, etc.).
■International commercial center "Minato-ku"
There are 353 listed companies in Minato-ku (as of 1st July 2014), which is one of the top 3 in Tokyo's 23 wards.
Among them, the headquarters of ANA, Fujitsu, Shiseido are located in Shimbashi, Minato-ku.
There are many other internationally well-known companies in Minato-ku as well.

■Future redevelopment of 3 main areas in Minato-ku – “National Strategic Special Zone Project”
1. Opening of new metro station “Toranomon Hills” Station
Operation starts in 2020 and the final completion(planned) will be in 2022.
In preparation for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, a new station will be opened using the National Strategic Special Zone.
2. Redevelopment of “Toranomon Hills”
With the addition of 3 new high-rise towers, Toranomon Hills will expand to an area of 7.5ha and a total floor area of 800,000㎡ (For comparison, Roppongi Hills has an area of 12ha and a total floor area of 760,000㎡).
A complex city with total area of about 300,000㎡ of office, about 800 total units of residence, about 26,000㎡ total area of commercial stores, about 350 total rooms of hotel and about 15,000㎡ of green space integrated with transportation infrastructure such as roads and railways which will be expected to evolve.
